The gas discovery is located south of Narsapur, Andhra Pradesh state, 7 km from the coast in a water depth of around 21 m. This was the second gas discovery in the block following Chandrika South No. 1.
In August 2016, ONGC launched an integrated development plan for KG-OSN-2004/1 which involved drilling and completing seven new wells in the block. The wells were to be tied in with five unmanned production platforms (SA-1A, SA-1B, NANL-2A, AL-1A and NANL-3A).
