The Tripura Block is located in the fold belt area of the Assam-Arakan Basin in north-eastern India in the Tripura state of north-eastern India. The Assam-Arakan Basin is India\'s oldest producing basin and has some of India\'s largest producing fields such as Nahorkatiya, Lakwa, Moran and Digboi. The first commercial discovery was made in Digboi in 1889.

Regionally the Tripura block is surrounded by gas fields of Bangladesh and India having more than 30 Tcf recoverable reserves. The present block area net of relinquishment is 1,260 km2 and is located east of ONGC\'s Baramura gas field and adjacent to the ONGC’s TMD-1 gas discovery to the east. Jubilant has made gas discovery in two of the three wells drilled. Kathalchari-1 well flowed 5.2 mmscf/d of gas from the middle Bhuban reservoir.
