Project Profile

Location: Karak Block, North-West Pakistan
Area: 2,539.64.21 sq.km
Depth: 5,350 meters
Production: 1,425 barrels of oil per day (bopd) oil and 1.18 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d) gas (197 barrels of oil equivalent per day)

The Karak exploration block is located in North-West Pakistan in the southern vicinity of the MOL Pakistanoperated Tal block. The operator of the Karak Block is Mari Gas Company Limited (MGCL). MOL Pakistan farmed into the block with 40% interest in 2008. There has been three discoveries made at the block so far (April 2016):

Halini X-1 in 2011was the first discovery made at the block, the well was spud on January 7, 2011 and was drilled up to a depth of 5,350 meters. During the initial short duration tests carried out, the well flowed at the average rate of 1,700 barrels/day crude oil of API gravity 26 at 32/64\" choke size.

Kalabagh-1A ST1, spud-in on March 20, 2015, is the Company’s 2nd exploratory well in Karak Block. It was successfully drilled down to a depth of 3,003 meters in Datta Formation. During testing, the well flowed Gas & Condensate in Datta Formation at a rate of 3.3 MMSCFD and 160 BBL/D respectively, with wellhead pressure of 694 Psi at 32/64” choke size.

The Halini-Deep-1 discovery is the third discovery and was drilled to 5,900 m. Subsequent to tests, the operator added the Samana Suk formation to the already known Lumshiwal, Hangu, and Lockhart reservoirs. The well flowed 1,425 b/d of oil and 1.18 MMcfd of natural gas. The Halini-Deep-1 discovery follows the Halini-X-1 and Kalbagh-1A discoveries that were also made on Karak block in 2011 and 2015, respectively.
