CNOOC and the Hainan provincial government has agreed to construct an LNG receiving terminal and 700 MWe gas fired power plant on the Yangpu peninsular in the NW of Hainan. The initial phase of development will see the facilities receiving capacity to be 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG. The second phase will increase this to 5 mtpa whilst also extending the Yangpu gas infrastructure by 433km which is due to begin operation in 2017.
CNOOC also plans to link the project to an 1,800 km pipeline which will connect all the operators LNG terminals in Hainan, Shenzhen in Guangdong, Fujian and Zhejiang.
