The project will see the construction, transfer and management of a new LNG import facility. The first phase includes a 3.5 million tonnes per year LNG terminal, two 160,000-cubic-metre storage tanks and a jetty. The terminal will be constructed on a 0.3-square-kilometre landfill in Rudong county of Jiangsu province. The capacity of the terminal will be expanded to 6 million tonnes per year in the second phase and to 10 million tonnes per year in the third phase. The terminal will supply a 2,400MW gas fired plant in Jiangsu province and will be able to take giant Q-Max LNG carriers.
The source of supply includes 2 million tonnes per year from Woodside Petroleum’s Browse project and 1 million tonnes per year from Shell’s interest in the Gorgon project.
