The project will see the construction of a polycrystalline silicon manufacturing base, which will be located at Samalaju Industrial Park, central Bintulu, Sarawak. The base will have an annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes. Tokuyama selected the current site due to the availability of electricity, industrial water, labour and other resources that are required for production. The State also offers preferential tax treatment and support for the acquisition of federal and state government permits and licenses. The base will produce polycrystalline silicon for use in semi-conductors and solar cells.

Phase 2 will add an annual production of 13,800 tonnes. The completion is scheduled for January 2015.
