The project will see the revival of the Ramagundam urea and ammonia plant. All of the old coal feedstock based technology at the plant is to be replaced with gas based technology. The gas will be sourced from the Mallavaram-Bhilwara pipeline.
The plant had an original capacity to produce 495,000 tonnes per annum of urea and 297,000 tonnes per annum of ammonia. The plant has not been in use since 1999.
In January 2015, National Fertilisers announced it would form a JV with Engineering India Limited (EIL) and Fertiliser Corp. of India (FCIL) to facilitate the project. National Fertilizers Ltd. will provide marketing services to the JV, with EIL providing EPCM consultancy services.
