The project will see the conversion of the Arun LNG liquefaction plant. Due to the decline in production from the current gas fields and expiration of LNG sales contracts, ExxonMobil has chosen to convert the LNG plant into a LNG receiving terminal. Two units at the Arun plant that store LNG meant for exports will be converted into a re-gasification unit to supply local businesses in northern Sumatra. The re-gasification unit will have a capacity of 200 million cubic feet a day. ExxonMobil also plans to construct a pipeline to distribute the gas.
