Project Profile

Value: US$800 million
Location: Block 5-2 & 5-3, Nam Con Son Basin, Vietnam
Gas Reserves: Moc Tinh - 35.9 billion cubic meters, Hai Thach - 15.2 million tonnes
Water depth: 150 m
Start-up year: October 2013

The Hai Thach gas discovery was made in February 1995 and an appraisal well on the structure was completed in 1996. Hai Thach is potentially the largest single gas accumulation in the Nam Con Son basin, with estimated gas volumes of 1.8 trillion cubic feet and about 90 million barrels of associated liquids.

The Moc Tinh field was found in 1994 and partially appraised in 1995. It has yet to be fully evaluated but is thought to contain 500 million cubic feet (14.16 million cubic metres) of recoverable gas with about 10 million barrels of liquids.

The reservoirs are more complex than the Lan Tay and Lan Do fields that make up the neighbouring Nam Con Son project in Block 6-1. The offshore facilities required for this major development comprise a large central processing platform, two wellhead platforms, subsea pipelines, and a floating storage and offloading vessel for liquids. Water depths in the project area are about 150 metres. The CPP will have a topside weighing up to 9,000 tonnes and a 7,000-8,000 tonne jacket. The two WHPs will each have a topside weighing up to 2,400 tonnes, and a 4,000-5,000 tonne jacket, to be linked by a 12 inch, 20km infield pipeline. Gas will be piped from the CPP to the Nam Con Son trunkline via a 20 inch, 44km pipeline. An 8 inch, 2.3km export line plus a 2.3km fuel gas line will also run from the CPP to the FSO. The FSO is expected to have a 350,000 tonne storage capacity and will be installed near the Hai Thach field.
