The Geronggong well was drilled in water depths of almost 1,000 metres and encountered various hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs. Evaluation of the well data estimates the field could contain several hundred million barrels of oil in place. The field is situated in the 3rd Offshore Acreage Area, approximately 100km from the coast. This is Brunei\'s first deepwater development.
The Noble Phoenix drillship was used for the deepwater drilling project. It underwent refurbishment and recertification on its thrusters, riser and blow-out preventer (BOP) prior to earning compliance for deepwater drilling.
