Project Profile

Value: US$250 million
Location: South East Mahakam Block, Indonesia
Water depth: 60 m
Production: 1.7 bcfpd (2016)
Start-up Year: Q3 2012

The project is expected to comprise of three wellhead platforms and an 80-km pipeline. Each of the three topsides is expected to weigh about 1,000 tonnes and each of the three jackets about 500 tonnes. Drilled in very shallow water, 8km southwest of the southernmost platform in the Tunu field, the Tunu Great South-1 well encountered a number of gas reservoirs that confirm the existence of an extension of the southern zone of Tunu. The Block is to supply the Bontang LNG project. Drilled in about 60 metres water depth, the two wells East Mandu-1 and West Stupa-1 respectively encountered 164 and 72 metres of good quality gas bearing reservoirs. These two discoveries are planned to be developed in connection with the development of the Stupa field.

The work scope for ESPC-1 and ESPC-2, respectively includes the fabrication of the jackets and topsides of three minimal facility wellhead platforms. The ESPC-3 package involves the installation of the 24-in 70km export pipeline and two flowlines totalling 14km in length. ESPC-4 will cover the transportation and installation for the jackets and topsides. South Mahakam is expected to produce around 15,000 b/d of liquids and 115 MMcf/d (3.26 MMcm/d) of gas. Total is in the process of scaling back drilling operations at Mahakam and expects to reduce the number of operating rigs from seven to three by the end of 2016. In terms of number of wells to be drilled this year it is around 107 and next year is around 70. Gas output from Mahakam could decline 9% to an estimated 1,494 mmscfd in 2016 from a targeted 1,645 mmscfd in 2015.

Pertamina will officially take over operation of the Mahakam block from French oil major Total and Japan\'s Inpex in 2018. (August, 2016)
