Project Profile
Value: US$16.5 billion
Location: Krishna-Godavari basin, Bay of Benegal, India\'s east coast
Reserves: 1.4-2.6 tcf (39.65-73.63 bcm)
Water depth: 700-1,700 metres
Area: 8,100 square km
The 8,100 square km KG-DWN-98/3 (KG-D6) block lies in the Krishna-Godavari Basin of the Bay of Bengal off India’s east coast. The seabed slopes sharply causing water depths to vary between 700 metres and 1,700 metres.
US$9.92 billion had been invested in the block by July 2013, with another US$6.5 billion earmarked until 2020.
Production has fallen steeply in recent years from a peak of 69.43 mcm per day in March 2010 to 7.9 mcm per day as of April 2016-February 2017.
Deloitte’s best case estimate of gross unrisked contingent resources of 1.4 tcf (39.65 bcm) relates to the Central (North), Northern and Central (South) fault blocks that were drilled by the MJ-1, MJ-A1, and MJ-A3 wells, based on an estimated areal extent of 24 square km, twice the areal extent of the analogous MA field that is currently producing.
In July 2016, Niko said P1 reserves stood at 2.6 tcf (73.63 bcm), while P1 and P2 reserves stood at 4.06 tcf (114.98 bcm).
