Zhuhai LNG is located on Gaolan Island, on the western bank of the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong province. CNOOC gained final approval for the project from the National Development and Reform Commission in April 2010 and construction began in October 2010. The terminal received its first cargo of LNG in October 2013 from Qatargas aboard the Al Gattara, marking the start of operations. The project encompasses the erection of three LNG tanks with a capacity of 160,000 cubic metres each and a LNG terminal that will produce 3.7 million tonnes a year.
