Project Profile
Value: US$18 million
Location: Nile Delta
Start-up Year: 2012
Area: 800,000 acres
The West El Manzala Concession was awarded in June 2005. The concession is now in the second two year extension of the exploration period, which expires in June 2012. This discovery will be brought on stream rapidly, as it is situated near the gas pipeline, which transports gas to the South El Manzala gas processing facility. The West Manzala and West Qantara blocks cover 800,000 acres on trend with and surrounding Centurion\'s existing El Wastani and South Manzala development leases. Fifteen exploration and appraisal wells was planned for the 2006-2007 drilling program for the two concessions commencing with Al Hamra-1 which was spudded on February 7, 2006.
The combined work program consists of 350 square kilometres of 3D seismic, reprocessing 2,000 kilometres of 2D seismic and the drilling of five wells. On 1/4/2006, The West Manzala seismic acquisition was completed. Approximately 1,400 square kilometres were acquired representing 70% of the total 2,000 square kilometre program. On 25/10/2006, The initial five wells have been drilled. The first two wells, Al Hamra-1 and El Deeb-1, found sub-commercial quantities in the Qawasim formation while high pressures and mechanical limitations meant the lower Qawasim and Sidi Salim formations could not be tested. The fourth well, Hurani-1, was also a disappointment, it was dry and has been plugged and abandoned. However, third time lucky as the third well, Luzi-1, resulted in what looks to be a modest but commercial gas find. Luzi-1 was drilled in August 2006 on the eastern side of the Manzala concession. The well found gas-bearing zones in the Upper and Lower Abu Madi formations. The fifth well, The South Gamasa-1 well, has drilled through the primary reservoir target in the Qawasim formation which, according to open hole log data, is water-wet.
In January 2007, Centurion Energy has became a wholly-owned subsidiary and the upstream division of Dana Gas. On 11 June 2007, The Marzouk-1 Exploratory well, located in West Manzala concession, has reached a depth of 2,623 metres at the top of Abu Madi formation. On 13 August 2007, Dana Gas has made new gas and condensate discovery with its Dabayaa 1wildcat in the West Manzala Exploration Concession. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,001m penetrating a gas bearing interval in the Lower Abu Madi Sandstone. Extensive testing of this unit yielded a production rate of 16.5 MMcfg/d and 330 bc/d through a 32/64\" choke. The hydrocarbon-bearing interval extends over a 10 sq km area for which recoverable reserves have yet to be established.
