Project Profile
Value: US$500 million
Location: Block G, Offshore Sabah
Start-up Year: 2014
Water Depth: 565m
Upstream Daily Oil Production: 46,000 bbl/day 60,000 bpd (at peak)
The Malikai\'s development concept will see construction of a tension leg platform as the main production facility. The production from Malikai will be routed to the onshore Sabah oil and gas terminal (SOGT) via Kebabangan central production platform, which will be linked to the SOGT, via the twin 14-in and a 24-in for condensate and gas trunklines each of around 135km long. The Malikai project lies around 110km off Sabah in Block G off the northwest of Sabah, with the original Malikai-1 oil discovery well drilled in an area with water depths of 1,854ft (565m) in 2004. Block G contains the Malikai, Ubah, Pisagan discoveries, as well as the Petai discovery. Malikai is located approximately 110km from Shell’s Gumusut field in Block J.
In June 2016 the Shell and Technip-MMHE joint venture successfully completed the onshore fabrication and commissioning of the Malikai deep-water platform at Pasir Gudang in Peninsular Malaysia. This major milestone for the project also marked the sail-away of the TLP on a 1,400-km (870-mile) journey to the Malikai field off Sabah.
Wells for the Malikai development will be drilled from the roughly 27,500-tonne TLP production facility. The first stage of drilling – the top part of the wells, or “top holes” – was completed safely in January 2015. The main drilling campaign will take place in 2016.

Flowserve Corporation: Contract to supply pumps for seawater lift, firewater, drain caisson, flare knockout drum, circulation and sump services
ALE: Contracts for the Malikai project on behalf of Technip and Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Sdn Bhd joint venture, TMJV. ALE was given the scope of weighing and transporting four unit hull blocks, living quarters and mega beams for the ‘superlift’ activities. ALE has also been contracted to remove all equipment using ALE’s 900t strand jacks (pre-installed on the maindeck of the topsides), skidding equipment and SPMTs. Once this has been performed, ALE will also carry out the load-out of the TLP.
