China National Petroleum (CNPC) commenced building the Shandong natural gas pipeline network in 2008. The 1,067km Shandong natural gas pipeline which extends from Taian to Weihai in China, comprises of one trunk and six branches.The pipeline has an annual transmission capacity of 8.6 billion cubic metres. In 2009, a new 342km Taian-Qingdao trunk of the Shandong natural gas pipeline network commenced operations. Construction work at the Taian-Qingdao began on 28 September 2009. The trunk was commissioned on April 26, 2011 with natural gas reached Qingdao on April 29 2011. Shandong natural gas pipeline network receives gas from CNPC\'s Changqing municipality through the Shaan-Jing Gas Pipelines and from Qinghai and Tarim Provinces and Central Asia via the West-East Pipeline network.
