Introduction

Blocks 3013 and 3113 and is located off the continental shelf in the Orange Basin. 

The Exploration Right area is approximately 6 930 km2 in extent and located more than 300 km from the coast in water depths beyond 2 500 m. The exploration programme would include 2D and 3D seismic surveys, multi-beam bathymetry and seafloor sampling for geochemical analysis. As part of the seafloor sampling component it is anticipated that up to 5 core samples would be collected across the licence area. Each individual piston core would have a potential disturbance volume of 0.02 m³, resulting in a total disturbance volume of approximately 0.1 m³. In this regard we request SAHRA to notify us whether there are any known shipwrecks located in the ultra-deep area.
