The Abu Dhabi onshore Block 1 is spread over an area of 6,162 sq.km, and is located in the Al Dhafra region. The block contains two existing undeveloped oil and gas fields in the form of Ruwais and Mirfa. On 27 March 2019, The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) signed agreements awarding the exploration rights for Abu Dhabi onshore Block 1 to a consortium of two Indian oil companies, Bharat Petroleum Corp and Indian Oil Corp. The consortium holds a 100% stake in the exploration phase, investing up to US$170 million, including a participation fee, to explore for and appraise oil and gas opportunities in the Block. ADNOC has the option to hold a 60% stake in the production phase.
