Arctic LNG-1, a subsidiary of Novatek, secured an exploration and production licence until the end of December 2044 to develop the Gydanskoye gas field in August 2017, after paying 2.262 billion rubles (US$39 million) at auction. The licence area spans 3,705 square km of the Gydan Peninsula. It is estimated to contain 58.4 bcm of C1, 57.7 bcm of C2 and 361.5 bcm of C3 gas reserves, along with 288 million barrels of condensate. Gydanskoye is expected to serve as a resource base for Novatek’s planned Arctic LNG-2 export terminal on the coast of the Gydan peninsula. The facility is expected online in 2023 and will boast an eventual capacity of 18.3 million tpy.
