Winx-1 is located approximately 6.5 km (4 miles) east of the Horseshoe-1/1A well, which significantly extended the fairway for the successful Nanushuk oil play. Winx-1 will target gross best estimate prospective resource of 400 million barrels of oil across multiple stacked objectives, including the Nanushuk formation, which is the primary target of the well.

In December 2018, 88 Energy received approval for all the major permits required for the drilling of the Winx-1 exploration well, followed by the Permit to Drill in January 2019. The well is on track for a spud date in February.
