Project Profile
The onshore regasification terminal and associated facilities will be built at Matarbari, at Cox's Bazaar. The site is 380 km from Dhaka and 90 km south of Chittagong, on the Bay of Bengal.
The plan is for a 7.5 million tpy terminal, possibly with the expansion to 15 million tpy in future. Regas capacity should be at least 1 bcf (28 mcm) per day.
The operator will own the plant for 20 years and will be responsible for receiving LNG, regasifying it and delivering it to the national grid. A plan is under way for the construction of a 90 km pipeline from Moheshkali to Chittagong, which the government will handle construction and financing.
Summit Corporation previously signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Corporation to develop a US$3 billion LNG-to-power project at Matarbari, Moheskhali area. Under the MoU, the parties agreed to develop an integrated LNG onshore receiving terminal with a regasification capacity of up to 1.5 bcf per day. The project plan also included two gas turbine combined cycle power projects totaling 2,400 MWh production capacity, relevant high voltage transmission lines and the import of LNG.
