Project Profile
Project Name: Block 9
Awarded: December 14, 2017
Start-up: 2020 (drilling)
In December 2017, the Lebanese Council of Ministers approved the awards of two exclusive petroleum licences for exploration and production in blocks 4 and 9 for the consortium composed of Total, Eni and Novatek.
Drilling activities in blocks 4 and 9 will start in 2019 after the Consortium finalises the needed logistics and studies throughout 2018.
The contract comprises a five-year exploration phase – extendable by up to 10 years – followed by a 25-year production phase should commercial quantities of hydrocarbons be discovered, extendable by five years.
Operator Total laid out plans for the fulfilment of an obligation to drill at least one well per block during the first three years of exploration. A first well would be drilled in 2019 in Block 4, followed by drilling in the controversial Block 9.
