The Nasiriya refinery project developed in 2010 involved the construction of a refinery near the city of Nasiriya in southern Iraq. The expected capacity was 300,000 bpd to address acute fuel shortages in Iraq. The objective is to produce LPG, gasoline, Jet fuel, kerosene, light gas oil, heavy diesel oil, fuel oil, asphalt and sulphur. The design of the refinery was to meet Euro IV product specifications to provide products for export as well as for domestic use. The refinery had been planned to be self-sufficient in utilities except for water from the Euphrates River and dry gas from a nearby gas pipeline and to meet Iraqi and international health, safety and environmental regulations. Project halted due to civil unrest. DF, October 2018
