Project Profile
Location: From the Vaca Muerta in the southwest to the heartland region around Rosario and Santa Fe.
Value: US$800 million
Length: 1,000 km
Capacity: 14.6 bcm per year
Start-up: April 2019
Transportadora de Gas del Sur (TGS) and Transportadora de Gas del Norte (TGN) have teamed up on a project to build a 1,000 km backbone line from the Vaca Muerta in the southwest to the heartland region around Rosario and Santa Fe. The Vaca Muerta pipeline, which still requires financial and regulatory approval, would be fed with supplies from a US$200 million gathering pipeline that TGS is building in the Vaca Muerta. It is scheduled to start operations in April 2019 and will have an initial pumping capacity of 5 mcm per day (1.8 bcm per year). A further US$600 million will be spent on expanding the gathering line's capacity to 60 mcm per day (22 bcm per year). The pipeline would have maximum capacity to transport 40 mcm per day (14.6 bcm per year). Its initial output would be half that amount in 2020, with full pumping capacity targeted for 2021. The new pipeline would feed into Buenos Aires' gas system via a connection to other backbone lines.
