Location: Lebap province, eastern Turkmenistan
Production start-up: 2010
China’s CNPC signed a 30-year production-sharing agreement (PSA) in 2007 for the Bagtyyarlyk contract area, which lies on the right bank of the River Amu Darya in eastern Turkmenistan. Gas production at the site was started three years later. The area contains several large gas deposits, including Saman-Depe and Altyn Asyr. Production is expected to plateau at 13 bcm per year in 2017, with new fields launched to maintain this level until the mid-2020s. This gas is pumped via the Turkmenistan-China Gas Pipeline in China’s northwestern Xinjiang province.
