The Product Oil Pipeline project runs from Lamu–Isiolo (Kenya) to Moyale–Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). The distance has an approximate length of 990 km. The project is one of seven key infrastructure projects planned under the Lamu Port - South Sudan - Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor projects list. The construction cost for the Product Oil Pipeline can be broken down to Lamu-Isiolo (540 km) with a cost of US$572 million and Isiolo-Moyale (450km) - US$314 million.
The leaders of Kenya and Ethiopia signed a Bilateral Agreement on the development and operation of the project on 23rd June 2016. The two countries made commitments to finalise development and operation details by the end of 2016.
The project will serve the larger southern Ethiopian market while the northern part of the country will be covered by a separate product pipeline connecting to the Djibouti Port.
Lamu is a city on the Kenyan coast and represents a gateway point for LAPSSET in terms of the port, airport, and rail and road corridors.
