Project Profile

Location: from Lamu, Kenya to Juba, South Sudan
Value: US$3.1 billion

Length: 1,320 km (Lamu-Isiolo-Nakodok)
Start-up year: 2021
The project is one of seven key infrastructure projects planned under the Lamu Port - South Sudan - Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor Program.
The total construction cost for the pipeline project is US$3.1 billion. It can be broken down to Lamu-Isiolo (540km) US$ 1.5 billion, Isiolo-Nakodok (780 km) US$ 1.2 billion, and Lamu Port Area US$340 million. The proposed pipeline will be financed under the PPP framework.
As of 2017, Total has attempted to persuade Kenya not to continue with the LAPSSET corridor, but instead to join the Uganda and Tanzania oil project. Kenya has remained committed to its partnership with South Sudan.
The pre-FEED and feasibility study were completed in December 2015. The FEED study is currently ongoing. It will be followed by the End Engineering Design (EED) before the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) tender for the pipeline construction is issued.
