The Ubima Field has a licence area of 64.57 sq. km and is located onshore in the northern part of Rivers State. It has been carved out of OML 17 operated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company. The Ubima Field had 3D seismic coverage in 1997 and four wells were drilled in the field between the 1960s and 1981. Hydrocarbons were encountered in all four wells in multiple stacked reservoirs. Eland, through its wholly owned subsidiary Wester Ord Oil & Gas Limited, holds a 40% working interest in Ubima, Allgrace Energy Limited (owned by a daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo) holds the remaining 60% interest in the Ubima Field.
Eland has carried out a complete re-evaluation of the Ubima Field. This work has increased confidence in initiating production towards the end of 2016 by means of an Early Production System (EPS). This is anticipated to comprise the re-entry and completion of existing well Ubima-1 and perforating and producing oil from five reservoirs.
The objectives of the EPS are to establish early production at relatively low cost while simultaneously gathering important information on oil characteristics and reservoir performance. The EPS development thereby acquires significant subsurface data, enabling the future Full Field Development (FFD) to be carried out in an optimal manner, including the potential for a commercial gas development.
In April 2016 AGR TRACS provided a CPR with 2P reserves of 2.4 mmbbl and 2C resources of 31.1 mmbbl.
