The East Bahariya block is located in the Western Desert, around 170 kilometres south west of Cairo. Apache made its first discovery on the block with the Karama field in February 2000 and began production in March 2001. Apache has explored the block aggressively and successfully since, making a further 32 discoveries. Field sizes are usually small, ranging from two to ten million barrels.
