Project Profile
Location: Block 21/18, Central North Sea, 150 miles NE of Aberdeen
Value: Undisclosed
Discovery Date: 1981
Production: 7,300 boepd (2015)
Start-up Year: 1990
The Kittiwake field was discovered in 1981 by Shell. The field was developed with a fixed steel jack platform and commenced production in 1990. In 2007 a new export route commenced via a pipeline to the Forties Unity platform and on to Cruden Bay.
Further exploration in the Greater Kittiwake Area (GKA) discovered the Grouse, Mallard, Gadwall and Goosander fields. All these additional subsea developed fields were tied back to the Kittiwake platform.
The Kittiwake Field was originally developed with four production wells and four water injection wells and reached a peak production of almost 40,000 Boepd in 1994.
The Mallard Field is located approximately 15.3km East-South-East of Kittiwake platform. It was discovered by Shell in 1990 and commenced production in 1998. The field has been developed using a single production well and two water injection wells, tied back to the Kittiwake platform.
The Gadwall Field is located approximately 13km East-South-East of the Kittiwake platform. It was discovered by Shell in 1996 and commenced production in 2005. The field has one production well and one water injection well. The Eagle exploration well in the Central North Sea was confirmed as a discovery on 1 July 2016, by EnQuest. The encouraging results of the initial analysis lead EnQuest to anticipate gross total recoverable reserves to be a similar size to those in the nearby Gadwall producing oil field.
The Goosander Field is located approximately 12km West-North-West of the Kittiwake platform. It was discovered by Shell in 1998 and commenced production in 2006. The field has two production wells, P1 and P2, supported by a strong aquifer.
The Grouse Field is located approximately 7km East of the Kittiwake platform. It was discovered by Shell in 1981 and commenced production in 2008. The field comprises a single production well supported by an aquifer.
