Project Profile
Location: northeastern Santander department, Barrancabermeja, Colombia
Production test: 250 bpd (Infantas Oriente-1)
Start-up Year: June 2018
Infantas Oriente oilfield lies just 3 km from Cira-Infantas, one of Colombia's oldest and largest oilfields. The field is located close to the Barrancabermeja refinery.
The Infantas Oriente-1 well was drilled to its target depth of 600 metres at the beginning of 2018, penetrating oil pay zones with a thickness of 15 metres. During testing the well produced more than 250 bpd of light oil of 33 degrees API.
As part of an initial plan to develop the site, Ecopetrol plans to drill up to 20 wells in 2018. A complementary plan will focus on primary recovery and will see an estimated 47 additional wells drilled in 2019. The third more advanced stage, comprising secondary recovery water-flooding techniques, is expected to add extra reserves in the mid- to long-term.
