Kovykinskoye is the largest known gas field in Eastern Siberia. It lies in the Zhigalovsky district of the Irkutsk region, extending over Gazprom’s Kovyktinsky, Khandinsky and Chikansky blocks. Kovykinskoye, together with the Chayandinskoye field in the Yakutia region, will serve as a resource base for Gazprom’s 38 bcm per year Power of Siberia gas pipeline to China, due to start up in 2019. Chayandinskoye’s launch is timed to coincide with the pipeline’s completion.
Gazprom obtained a licence to the Kovyktinskoye field in 2011. The field is currently in pilot production, with geological exploration underway, the existing development wells being studied for their potential, and the membrane technology for on-site helium extraction undergoing testing.
Operator: Gazprom with 100% interest.
