Project Profile
Location: Batumi, Black Sea coast of western Georgia
Value: undisclosed
Area: 90 hectares
Capacity: 551,000 cubic metres
Start-up Year: 1886
The Batumi oil terminal (BOT) exports crude oil and oil products produced in the Caspian region to markets in Europe and elsewhere. The terminal, which covers a total of area of around 90 hectares, accommodates five tank farms with a total capacity of 551,000 cubic metres and an oil loading complex. Three tanks are used to hold crude oil and two tanks are used to hold fuel oil, diesel fuel and jet fuel. BOT is also equipped with Georgia’s only LPG terminal.
Loading of oil tankers is performed at three marine berths and the conventional buoy mooring (CBM). The CBM is BOT’s largest loading facility with the ability to serve tankers with a deadweight of up to 140,000 tonnes.
The Batumi oil terminal has seen steadily less usage since 2006, when the Batumi-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline (BTC) was completed. Handling at the terminal fell from 12 million tonnes in 2006 to 3.377 million tonnes in 2016, and 2.109 million tonnes in 2017. KazMunaiGas (KMG) acquired the Batumi oil terminal in 2008. It announced plans to sell the complex in 2015.
