Mukhaizna EOR Project

Brief  Introduction

The Mukhaizna Oil Field is an oilfield in Al Wusta Governorate, Oman.Mukhaizna is the third largest oil field in South Oman. The field was discovered in 1975 and was found to contain heavy, viscous oil in the Upper Gharif Unit 2(UG2) and the MiddleGharif(MG) reservoir. The estimated reserves are two billion barrels of heavy crude. The technical difficulties posed by the heavy oil, in combination with relatively high associated costs, precluded an early development. Economic cold development was made feasible in 1992 by the introduction of horizontal wells in Mukhaizna. The 2011 exit rate of gross daily oil production at the Mukhaizna Field was nearly 124,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The development consortium is led by Occidental Petroleum(45%) and also includes Oman Oil Company(20%),Royal Dutch Shell(17%),Mubadala Development(15%),Total E&P Oman(2%) and Partex(1%). In the current development phase, which started in 2005, the partners aim to drill more than 2,000 production wells, using steam-flooding to ramp up production to a target of 150,000 barrels per day from 10000 barrels per day at Mukhaizna Oilfield. The Mukhaizna field in southern central Oman has estimated resources of 2 billion to 2.4 billion barrels of sticky crude. At the Mukhaizna Field, Oxy has implemented an aggressive drilling and development program, including a major pattern steam flood project for enhanced oil recovery. To produce feed water for the steam needed for the project, non-potable water from multiple sources, such as water separated from oil production, is conditioned using various technologies — including the largest mechanical vapor compressors ever built.

This project includes:Wastewater recycling and reuse plant package,Central production processing facility package(Oil treatment unit,De-oiling train,Tank farm,De-sanding facilities,VRU compression system,Flare facilities,Utility systems).

Change of rights and interests

The initial share distribution of the project is Occidental Petroleum(45%),Oman Oil Company(20%),Royal Dutch Shell(17%),Mubadala Development(15%),Total E&P Oman(2%) and Partex(1%).

2017.10.11-Royal Dutch Shell was seeking to sell its 17 percent stake in the Mukhaizna oil field in Oman, which could fetch up to $200 million.
