Project Profile

Location: shelf concession OML 91, shallow waters offshore Nigeria
Expected Production: 9,000 bpd of liquids and 8 mcm of gas
Start-up year: 2H 2017

Sonam Field is located in shelf concession OML 91 in the shallow waters offshore Nigeria. The Sonam 04 and sidetrack, Sonam 04stl, appraisal wells were drilled by operator CNL on behalf of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC). The well results indicate a larger reserves potential than had previously been estimated with approximately 122m net of gas condensate pay found in each well. Two sandstone reservoirs demonstrated excellent reservoir quality during testing - with a combined test rate 1.64 million cubic metres of gas and 1,900 barrels of condensate per day, while the second sand tested at a rate of 0.85 mcm of gas and 5,600 barrels (bbls) of condensate per day. Both test rates were limited by the test equipment.

The Sonam project covers approximately 4,600 metric tons of fabrication work, including the Topsides, Jackets, Piles and Bridge – at the Nigerdock fabrication yard. It is one of CNL’s non-associated gas projects aimed at supporting the Federal Government’s Gas Master Plan. The project also supports the upgrade of Nigerdock’s Fabrication Yard in country. It involves the subcontracting of fabrication of 4 vessels and numerous pipe-spools to Dormanlong, an indigenous company. In the area of capacity building and people development, the project provided Engineering training for 35 Nigerian Content Development Management Board (NCDMB) trainees through twelve 12 weeks of Engineering & Project Management courses as well as construction training for 150 trainees in fields ranging from welding, fitting and scaffolding. It has also scoped the execution of small subcontract fabrication and supply service to Chevron’s Escravos neighboring Community Contractors.
