Project Profile
Location: Wavis Basin, Namibia
Area: 5,750 sq. km (3,600 sq. km offshore and 2,150 sq. km onshore)
Water Depth: 50-150 m
Recoverable Resources: >520 million barrels
Start-up Year: -
The Wavis Basin and Block 2113A is a key potential gas and oil frontier area and forms the unexplored sector of the Namibain continental margins located south of the prolific Angolan mature oil fields. This major Cretaceous-Recent depositional system covers an area of 105,000 sq. km. The proposed area of the 2D seismic survey is approximately 1,050 km in length, comprising of low density spaced survey lines spanning an area of approximately 2,500 sq. km. Water in the proposed survey area ranges between 50m and 150m in depth, and the distance from shore ranges between 10 and 50km.
Operators:
NABIRM Energy: Operator with 90% interest
NAMCOR: 10% interest
Contractors:
CCA Environmental (pty) Ltd: To examine the baseline environmental conditions of the licensed survey area, evaluate the potential impacts of the proposed seismic survey and present the findings in an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
BGP International: Seismic survey using the vessel M/V BGP Pioneer. The M/V BGP Pioneer acquired 684 line kilometres of 2D seismic data plus ship borne gravity and magnetic data within Block 2113A. The survey was acquired with a single 9-kilometre cable towed 8 metres below the sea surface. Acquisition was completed on 20 March 2015.
Parallel Geoscience: Contract to process the 2D seismic data in April and May , 2015
Ion Geophysical: Contracted to perform the 2D seismic interpretation and received/loaded the processed 2D dataset into SMT/Kingdom on 6 July 2015. The objective of the seismic interpretation was to identify key depositional features.
