In that perspective Saudi Aramco is extending the existing Master Gas System to the Western Province in order to supply the power plants located there. The project involves the expansion of master gas system and being implemented in two phases.
The first phase includes the construction of a 500km, 56-inch pipeline, two booster gas compressor stations and related facilities with an investment of US$1,650 million.
The second phase includes the construction of three pipeline packages with an investment of US$1,500 million.
Package 1 is Western Region pipeline. The scope of this package involves laying of a 422km of 56inch pipeline on Saudi Aramco’s East West pipeline 2 and estimated contract value is US$827 million.
Package 2 is Central Region pipeline. The scope of this package involves laying of a 250km of 46inch pipeline on the East West Qassim gas pipeline 1.
Package 3 is Easter Region pipeline. The scope of this package involves laying of a 150km of 56inch pipeline on the Shedgum Riyadh gas pipeline 3 as well as a 40km of 56inch pipeline on the Shedgum Riyadh gas 2 and the estimated contract value is US$372 million.
The project will also have a closed drain system, compressed air system, diesel system, electrical generation system, fuel gas system, inlet facilities, process facilities, raw water system, sanitary waste or wastewater system and three compression stations.The project will raise the system’s capacity to 12.5 billion cubic feet of gas a day (cfd) by 2018 from 8.4 billion cfd. Upon completion of phase two, the scheme will help deliver gas to the western region, including the King Abdullah Economic City, PetroRabigh and an independent power plant.
