CompactGTL has announced that it has concluded arrangements for a substantial investment in the company by a consortium of investors. The investment of US$ 50 million will help the company to move forward with its recently announced project to build the world’s first small scale commercial GTL plant in Kazakhstan. The management team has also been bolstered. The company expect to have a fully functioning modular GTL plant in operation by 2017. It is expected that initial engineering will take 12 months, followed by a construction period of two years, highlighting the relative speed with which such a project can be delivered. The plant is expected to bring with it significant future commercial and environmental benefits. Associated gas that might otherwise be wasted will be fed through the plant every day to produce synthetic diesel. Fluor is the engineering partner of CompactGTL,Fluor is responsible for the delivery of pre-FEED and FEED work, plus project management support during the EPC phase.Fluor is the leader in FEED and EPC execution of GTL projects globally – e,g, Lake Charles project and Sasol 3 complex. n the case of Kazakhstan, the frame size proposed by CompactGTL should have a capacity of 820,000 cubic meters per day (cm/d) of associated gas. Therefore the Kazakhstan GTL project should produce 3,000 barrels per day (b/d) of synthetic diesel. In respect with the rising demand of the domestic market for transportation fuels, the investment to monetize this quantity of associated gas being flared appears commercially viable. The design phase should take 12 months so that CompactGTL is planning its first small-scale GTL plant in Kazakhstan by 2017.
