Engie E&P has increased the resource estimate at its Cara license in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, estimating that the discovery contains 56 – 94 million barrels of oil equivalent. The original volumes were estimated to be between 4.5 and 12 million standard cubic meter (MSm3) of recoverable oil equivalent, which corresponds to 25 – 70 million barrels. This made Cara the second largest discovery on the Norwegian continental shelf in 2016, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. The well encountered a gas column of 51 m and an oil column of 60 m. The operator, Engie E&P Norge AS, estimated that 25 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) to 70 MMboe have been discovered. Data acquisition including wireline logging, three successful core runs and a successful production test were undertaken. The partners will now evaluate the possibility of linking this discovery to existing infrastructure at Gjøa. Engie E&P Norge AS has a 30% stake in the license. The other partners are Tullow Oil Norge AS, with (20%; Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, with 30%; and Wellesley Petroleum AS, with 20%. The well encountered a gas column of 51 m and an oil column of 60 m with the operator, ENGIE E&P Norge, estimating between 25 MMboe and 70 MMboe have been discovered. Extensive data acquisition was undertaken. The partners will now evaluate the possibility of linking this discovery to existing infrastructure at Gjøa field. The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,702 metres in 349 metres of water, 6 kilometres northeast of the Gjøa field. The well encountered a gas column of 51 metres and an oil column of 60 metres with the operator estimating between 25 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe) and 70 million boe have been discovered. Extensive data acquisition was undertaken including wireline logging and three successful core runs and a successful production test. The partners will now evaluate the possibility of linking this discovery to existing infrastructure at the nearby Gjøa field.
