Project Profile
The Union of the Comoros is an archipelago located in the Mozambique Channel, between Northern Mozambique and Northern Madagascar. The Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for Blocks 35, 36 & 37 (previously named Blocks A, B & C) was signed by the Government of the Union of the Comoros in March 2013 and ratified by the National Assembly in March 2014, in full compliance with the country's new Petroleum Code (2013). The licence area is outboard of and on trend with Rovuma Offshore Areas 1 and 4, offshore Northern Mozambique.
Following ratification of the Comoros PSC in 2014, Discover and Bahari acquired and interpreted 3,900 km of 2D seismic data, and conducted a range of exploratory studies. This included the purchase of 1,570 km of ION's existing 2D seismic data, plus the acquisition of around 2,300 km of new 2D seismic.
Existing 2D seismic data indicates the extension of Rovuma basin floor fans continuing into the Comoros PSC licence area. The exploration phase covers a maximum period of 10 years. The initial work programme consists of, amongst other, a phased seismic and drilling programme within the PSC license area.
In August 2018, ERCE, a UK-based independent energy consulting group, estimated that two partly stacked prospects in the PSC area together contain gross mean unrisked prospective resources of 7.1 billion barrels of oil plus associated gas or 49 tcf (1.4 tcm) of non-associated gas plus condensate.
