The development stages:In production - under development/2009-08.The Campos basin oil and gas fields, located beneath up until 7km layer of salt in the Atlantic seabed, are one of the highest producing hydrocarbons in Brazil, being part of the Pre-Salt formation. The Campos basin has high potential and a large hydrocarbon core, similar to that of the Santos basin. It is the main sedimentary area to have already been explored in Brazil. Exploration of the basin dates back to the mid-70s. It has both shallow water and deep water areas and pre-salt resources. The basin comprises exploration and production areas such as Marlim, Roncador, Marlim Sul, Albacora, Frade, Papa Terra and others. It covers around 115,800 square kilometers.
