The license covers both CBM and shale gas exploration. Past geological studies in NuEnergy\'s EPL show:
- Coal shales of the Permian Ecca Series up to 600m thick with high organic content
- There are Coal seams with up to 74% fixed carbon content
Significant unsupplied demand for power exists in Malawi with only 240MW of installed capacity & a population in excess of 16 million inhabitants. Malawi is an under-explored emerging country gaining acceptance through a newly reformed Government with major World Bank/IMF support. Malawi\'s fiscal terms for CBM and Shale gas provide development incentive with 5% gross royalty and 25-30% company tax rate. NuEnergy underwent extensive geological and geophysical studies within its EPL area in the first half of 2013 to determine sweet spots for drilling. Drilling commenced in the second half of 2013.
