The development stages:Exploration drilling/2005-10,In production - under development/2012-08.The Amazon basin has a proven petroleum active system. Several discoveries have been made during the history of exploitation and Azulão and Japim are fields currently being developed. The first exploration phase took place in the 50s and 60s where 53 statigraphic wells and 58 wildcat wells were perforated by Petrobras. Oil and gas indications were found in several wells, but the discoveries were considered sub-commercial given the small extension of the reservoir. A second exploration phase happened between the 80s and 90s with systematic seismic studies being carried out, significant hydrocarbons accumulations of gas and oil were discovered in Lago Tucunaré and Igarapé Cuia wells respectively. In 1999 in Uatumã well located in BA-3 block owned and operated by Petrobras since Round 0, gas was found. Such finding, along with the good oil indications observed in the well Lake Itaúba have opened new perspectives for the discovery of a new producing province, in a new frontier basin of vast dimensions. Sector SAM-O of Amazonas basin is currently listed in the upcoming 13th Bidding round in Brazil.
