The development stages:Tendering/2013-10,In production - under development/2013-06.The Chicontepec area, or Activo Integral Aceite Terciario del Golfo, covers 3,800 square kilometers and offers unique reservoirs located within a paleochannel that is part of the Tampico-Misantla basin. In 2010, five field laboratories were awarded to companies with expertise in production-enhancement solutions with the purpose of testing new technologies to be implemented in Chicontepec. The novel labs were awarded to Tecpetrol, Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, Weatherford, and Halliburton. Then, in 2012, Pemex's E&P unit, PEP, held a third round of incentive-based contracts that offered blocks in the Chicontepec area. Six blocks were put up for auction: Pitepec, Soledad, Amatitlán, Miquetla, Humapa and Miahuapan. While Pitepec did not attract any bids, the remaining five were awarded to both national and foreign operators: Operadora de Campos DWF, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Vitol Energy, and GPA Energy. To date, Corralillo, Tajín, and Presidente Alemán are Chicontepec's top three oil-producing fields, while the main gas-producing fields are Corallillo, Agua Fría, and Tajín. Weatherford was in charge of boosting output at Presidente Alemán through its field laboratory. There are 3,291 wells in the area, of which 2,060 are producing. Total production averaged 45,000b/d by the end of 2014. According to Sener, Round One's Chicontepec blocks should be put up for auction in late 2015.
