Offshore block 42 covers an area of 607,029ha and is operated by Kosmos Energy. It is located within the Suriname-Guyana basin in water depth of 5,900 to 8,850ft (1,798-2,698m). The block was acquired by Kosmos in 2011 through a production sharing agreement with Staatsolie. Chevron acquired a 50% interest in the block in 2012. In May 2016 Hess Corporation reached a farm-in agreement with Kosmos and Chevron, under which the three companies will each have a one-third share, with Kosmos remaining as operator.
