Bolivar Block

Operated by UK firm Global Energy Development, the Bolívar block covers an area of 8,498ha and is located in the Magdalena Medio basin. It is an unconventional resources project with estimated 2P heavy and light oil reserves of more than 33 Mboe It will be possible to reach the oil using a horizontal drilling technique. Global Energy acquired the block in 1996 and by 2014 three wells had been drilled: Olivo-1, Catalina-1 and Olivo-2. The block has five target formations: La Luna, Rosa Blanca, Salada, Simiti and Tablazo. The 2014-2020 development program for the block includes the drilling of 525 wells, with a production target of 200,000b/d by 2020. In 2014, drilling at formations La Luna (Olivo-1) and Simit (Catalina-1) will begin.
