The development stages:Exploration drilling/2009-04.Peru's block No. 144 is operated by Karoon Gas Australia. It covers 683,616ha on the eastern slope of the Andes within the Marañón basin. There are two main targets in the block, Patria and Ungumayo, with prospective resource potential of 50mn-250mn barrels of oil. Works include processing 1,000km of 2D seismic and geological and geophysical studies carried out in 2009-11. In the second phase, the company plans to acquire and interpret 300km of new 2D seismic data. The third phase will consist of the drilling of one well to a minimum depth of 4,200m. A farm-out process has been initiated. Currently the block is in force majeure and exploration work should be resumed once it is lifted.
