The development stages:Exploration drilling/2011-01.The offshore oilfield is located about 200km off of French Guiana's coast. In 2011, the field's GM-ES-1 exploratory well encountered 72m of net oil pay in two turbidite fans. A total of US$200mn was invested in the drilling of the first exploration well. In December 2012, the Zaedyus-2 appraisal well failed to locate commercial quantities of hydrocarbons. A total of four wells have been drilled, but all have failed to live up to the initial expectations of the companies involved.
