The unconventional COR 53 block covers 144,213ha and is located in Colombia's Cordillera Oriental basin. It was part of the 2014 Colombian Round for production and exploration licenses, promoted by local hydrocarbons agency ANH and the mines and energy ministry (Minminas). The contract included an initial 36-month stage which involved the acquisition of 200km of 2D seismic data, or the reprocessing of existing data, and the drilling of two exploration or stratigraphic wells. Second and third phases would require four exploration wells each. The contract would last nine years for exploratory activities and 30 years once production has started, and be extendable for another 10 years.
