Cardón block covers 113,259ha in the Caguán Putumayo basin and was awarded by Colombia's hydrocarbons regulator ANH to Emerald Energy, Chinese firm Sinochem's subsidiary, in 2012. In mid-2013, Ecopetrol signed a deal with Emerald Energy and agreed to operate Cardón block, while Emerald will operate the Manzano and Nogal blocks. In the three projects covered by the deal, the companies agreed to hold a 50-50 working interest in each block. The Cardón block will see 228km of 2D seismic collected, an exploratory program which is still underway.
